Common Issues and Troubleshooting Tips

1. Subdomain Not Working After Setup

  • Issue: You’ve added the DNS record, but your custom subdomain still isn’t working.

  • Solution: Double-check that the subdomain name in Petrova matches exactly what you entered with your DNS provider. Ensure the DNS record is saved with the correct values (Type A, Host, and IP address). Keep in mind that DNS changes may take up to 24 hours to fully propagate.

2. DNS Propagation Delay

  • Issue: You set up the DNS record, but changes aren’t showing up immediately.

  • Solution: DNS updates sometimes take a while to go live, especially if your provider caches DNS settings. You can try refreshing your browser cache or use an online tool like WhatsMyDNS to check if the changes have propagated.

3. Accidentally Using an Apex Domain

  • Issue: You might have used the main domain (e.g., yourwebsite.com) instead of a subdomain (e.g., interview.yourwebsite.com).

  • Solution: Petrova requires a subdomain setup (like interview.yourwebsite.com) rather than the apex domain (yourwebsite.com). Make sure to enter a subdomain under the “Whitelabel Setup” section.

4. 404 Error on the Subdomain Homepage

  • Issue: After sucessfuly setting up your custom subdomain, you see a 404 error when visiting the homepage (

    /
    ) of the subdomain.

  • Solution: This is expected and normal. Rest assured, your interview pages will still be fully accessible and hosted at yourdomain.com/interview/[token], To get the specific interview page URL, go to the Job section in Petrova and copy the link for the applicant’s interview page from there.
